The beautiful is as useful as the useful. Perhaps more so. – Victor Hugo
Slow and Steady Wins the Race is a design studio and our mission is committed to making something
useful. Utility is always our base when we begin a collection. Anything wearable needs to work on the body and adapt to the movement of the world.
True design integrity is undeniable in its presence and purpose. It is what makes our foundation. Design
has the power to be timely and timeless, unique and universal, ageless and cross-cultural. As a living
archive and now best represented as a thesaurus of wearable design, Slow and Steady Wins the Race will
continue to focus on the fundamentals of clothing and accessory design while making a commentary on
the cultural anthropology of fashion, dress and function. Thank you for joining us on this journey.
Simplicity is the most challenging design value of all. It must connect the dots seamlessly, effortlessly,
and harmoniously at the same time. However, if and when successful, the results are nothing short of
Trustability or trustworthiness, synonyms of reliability, and values we imbue when creating in the studio.
From the pragmatism of durability to the reassurance of consistency, we and what we make are all here
Materiality is a core value. It is important to differentiate it from materialism. In the studio we approach
everything as antithetical to design obsolescence and the bones of that process begin with the materials.
Materials, however simple or advanced, are chosen for the long path. They need to feel good and last. The
sensibility of the material itself holds vast possibilities too. The entire soul of the design can be
completely transformed just by the switch of the fabrication.
Care is part of our everyday methodology: a practice that is inherent, automatic, and genuine in every step
from idea to the finished item and the way it will live in the world.
While investigating the classics of the everyday wardrobe, we address it with a conceptual clarity. What is
a status bag? How is ‘clear’ a visual characteristic? Practical in application but anonymous in its presence.
“If you can design one thing, you can design everything.” – Massimo Vignelli. By staying curious, we are
constantly energized. Even if the question is harder than the answer, and the answer is elusive, we keep
on the path of curiosity.
Quality is not an act, it is a habit. – Aristotle
More than sustainability, we in the studio believe tremendously in longevity. Longevity means durability,
long-lasting consistency and is inclusive of the previous values. Now more than ever we must uphold
memory as a responsibility and ensure the longevity of our practices and the impact of their outcomes.
